SportSG 4-2 LTA: Get well soon, SG’s favourite FB LIVE presenter

It is never a pleasant feeling to see someone hurt, and all the more so when it’s a close friend and brother. But I feel our #TUT brotherhood really proved its worth last night. Even though ST had to cancel his dinner plans (sorry PX and TG!), and I had to cancel mine (sorry mom, will be home to eat soon! – just in case you are stalking my blog šŸ˜‚), I think our priority was clear. We both wanted to be there for our bro in his time of need.

One for our #TUT album of memories. Although in this photo Gary looks more like one-armed warrior Yang Guo than #YangNDangerous.

In the end we didn’t manage to help much, cos the TTSH staff didn’t allow us in to see our Xiao Ming. But we hope our presence managed to cheer him up a bit. For our bro, we were willing to endure some not-so-pleasant treatment byĀ the Entry Door Security Nurse aka Guardian of the Clinic-sy, but it’s worth it. Fair enough she was doing her job by not letting us in, as Gilbert was already in there, so we thought the next best thing to do was to snap a photo and send to Xiao Ming to show him our support, to which the GOTC snapped at us and said no photo taking was allowed in that area. So we bo pian had to suck thumb andĀ ended up using FaceTime to check up on our bro instead.

FaceTime ftw. Cos they tried to take our Xiao Ming away from us, but we are as persistent as flies.

The convo that ensued will remain private, but needless to say ST and I believe that the collectiveĀ nonsenseĀ that we spouted in our desperate show of concern for him over FaceTime/Whatsapp must have made him wish that his two bros didn’t come to visit and add to his grief instead LOL. Afterall with bros like this, who needs enemies right? Anyway on a serious note, for those who are concerned, Gary was discharged last night after having his elbow put back in place.

And though he is feeling gutted, he is doing alright. To quote Xiao Ming over Whatsapp in our Digital team chat “Im a tpugh c9okie”. Whatever that means… non masterhand typing ftw. Please feel free to pamper him when you all see him back in office next week. Please get well soon, Singapore’s favourite FB Live Presenter! Else I confirm die from covering our work *SOBS* (I kid. Rest well bro)

Team SportSG 4-2 LTA

Scorers: Low Sin Ting (20′), Aleksandar Duric (41′), John Yeong (47′), Bazlee (89′)

I managed to get on the score sheet on my return to the Team SportSG starting line-up, but I am still severely lacking in match fitness and overall sharpness.

A tough match against difficult opponents, and our meetings with LTA over the last few seasons always seem to be incident-filled, and this one was no different. A win that maintained SportSG’s 100 percent record in this year’s Government Service Football League and saw us top the group to qualify for the semis, but a result overshadowed by the horrific injury suffered by our reliable right back Gary Yang.

We were slow out of the blocks, and found ourselves trailing inside the first 12 minutes 0-1, with LTA capitalising on some lethargic defending to finish with aplomb. SportSG levelled the scores 9 minutes later when a good team move involving my new strike partner Aleks and myself sent Izad away down the right and he picked out ST at the far post who coolly volleyed the ball into the roof of the net.

Coming onto 30 minutes was when the unfortunate incident happened, when Gary’s overlapping run down the right saw a late collision between LTA’s defender and his trailing arm that left him requiring emergency treatment, and he was subsequently stretchered off the field with an oxygen mask strapped to his face.

The incident galvanised SportSG to battle even harder, and Aleks duly put SportSG ahead 2-1 with a sublime 40 yard free kick minutes before half time. He then turned provider just after half time, leaping highest to send me through on goal with a beautifully headed flick on, as I proceeded to round the LTA goalkeeper and fire home to make it 3-1. Our joy was short lived however, as LTA clawed back the match to 3-2 just minutes later to make for a nail-biting rest of the 2nd period, before our leftback Bazlee made sure of the win with a classy finish in the last minute of the match following a SportSG counter attack.
