Filming of ActiveSG Basketball 101 series

So after a lengthy delay of several months, we finally completed the filming of our ActiveSG Basketball 101 series this afternoon. A huge downpour gave us a scare early on however, as it meant we had to switch our shoot from the outdoor courts at 100 Plus Promenade into the OCBC Arena, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Huge thanks to our ex colleague and Sports Hub staff Lynette Yeo for getting us access at the last minute.

Due to an injury suffered by our ActiveSG Basketball Academy ambassador and Singapore Slingers star Ng Hanbin late last year, this shoot had to be put on hold till recently because of our intense filming schedule over the festive period – particularly for the myActiveSG Festive Challenge.

Singapore Slingers’ Hanbin demonstrates the right technique to execute a shot in basketball.

This was the third of our ActiveSG Sports 101 series, the first two of which featured athletics with Team Singapore hurdler Kerstin Ong and tennis with Team Singapore tennis player Stefanie Tan. You can watch the two ‘How To’ series here on Sport Singapore’s YouTube channel:

Today also marked the debut of Samantha Low on screen for us in a non-Live filming session. She previously debuted on Facebook LIVE for the ActiveSG Sports Open House @ Our Tampines Hub, which has garnered over 38,000 views and even became somewhat of a mini celebrity when she was recognised by the local coffee shop uncle selling chye peng near her place after that session. Watch that here if you haven’t.

After a sluggish start the shoot went about smoothly with very little hiccups. Probably the toughest part was getting Sam to articulate our calls-to-action in the way we thought it should be delivered – cos this crazy girl has a mind of her own! Let’s just say it’s easier to get Sin Ting to dress up for work than it is to get Sam to say her lines *hur hur*. Just kidding. But I guess it just embodies the persona of who she is, and we all still love her for it. 🙂

I think she did an awesome job, and long may this continue for us as we are expecting a pretty busy year coming up in terms of major events and the launch of various ActiveSG clubs and academies.

And it’s a wrap! First assignment complete for @slow22 🙂

Don’t forget to check out this Basketball 101 series when it launches next month on our Sport Singapore YouTube Channel. And stay tuned to myActiveSG facebook page in the next couple of weeks to find out how you can win free tickets to catch the Singapore Slingers’ in their next home match on 5 March vs Saigon Heat at OCBC Arena in the ASEAN Basketball League!
